Following their introduction in 2013, laws allowing larger home extensions have now been made permanent which means you can make plans to extend without a full planning application.
You can build a single-storey rear extension of up to six metres for terraced or semi-detached homes or eight metres for detached homes. Larger single-storey rear extensions can’t be more than four metres high and all extensions must meet building regulations and health and safety standards.
